Toastmasters

Toastmasters changed my life …

… and I’ve seen it transform many people since then. Most people think of it as a way to learn public speaking, which it is, but it is also an amazing place to learn leadership and to gain self confidence. Like many things, you get out of it what you put into it. I can attest the more you put into Toastmasters, the more it will transform you.

I earned Distinguished Toastmaster (the Eagle Scout of Toastmasters) but more importantly my experiences in Toastmaster were absolutely instrumental in me landing my current job, the last job I will ever have. I still attend Toastmasters. (Reno Storytellers meets in Reno, NV on Saturday mornings) and I still learn and improve. However, the real reason I still attend Toastmasters is the joy I get in helping others realize their potential.

As part of my DTM program, I had to present an education seminar. For that I created a program on how to give evaluations. It was so well received that I’ve given it a dozen times in 3 different districts. In this seminar you will learn a simple step by step process to fearlessly give powerful evaluations. This is hugely valuable to Toastmaster who have to give evaluations in meetings, but almost every concept applies equally well to giving feedback to friends, family or coworkers. (See links to the seminar below).

For the High Performance Leadership part of my DTM I created a program called Speakers For Stagetime. Honestly, I created it because I wanted more speaking opportunities, but the value is not only for speakers who want more stage time, but also for clubs who need speakers to make their meeting more effective. It was a huge win-win. The program has since been cloned in a few other locations. It would be great to clone this concept around the world.
